As the high school journey comes to an end for our seniors, CSSJ has many fun activities planned. The same activities that you will see every year are the College March, senior luncheon, prom, and decision day which rarely ever change. However, the one activity that the seniors do have a say is the senior trip.
For the past six years, past graduating classes have planned a day trip like visiting Kalahari Resorts. The class of 2025, on the other hand, decided that we should enjoy our senior trip to the fullest and extended this idea. The Class of 2025 Senior committee came up with the idea of doing an overnight trip to Hershey and Dorney Park in Pennsylvania. On the first day of the senior trip, we will go to Hershey Park and enjoy its vast variety of water and roller coaster rides, chocolate, and characters like the Hershey. Then, we will sleep at SpringHill Suites Harrisburg Hershey Hotel and wake up to enjoy Dorney Park. Dorney Park is another amusement and water park, letting us go back and forth between both parts of the park.

Many might not see the significance of this senior trip, but it is an important example of a group of students making decisions for themselves. The class of 2025 saw the previous senior trips and realized that we wanted our last trip in high school to be memorable. With the hard work and dedication of our seniors and staff, we understood the needs of an overnight trip. The class of 2025 expressed their concerns and made a committee to make this trip come to life. One thing the seniors started to do, in order to financially contribute to the senior trip, is bake sales. Every other week students sell homemade brownies, fried Oreos, Rice Krispies treats, candies, sodas, chips, and many other goodies to the school community. Each week students have made more and more sales that will be used for our activities.
Although our seniors are a big part of why this trip is taking place, there are many other factors that contributed as well. New York Edge is a non-profit organization that helps inside of CSSJ. New York Edge and a part of the school’s budget has provided the seniors with a generous donation, making the cost of the trip lower. Through hard work and aforementioned donation, now our meals, entry to both parks, the hotel, and coach bus will cost two-hundred dollars for each senior.
The takeaway is not just that seniors will be enjoying the overnight trip, but that with unity and dedication, you can do anything you set your mind to.
