Every year in Jason’s Government class, senior write political stump speeches. This is one about pollution.

Greetings to you my fellow classmates! I am here to discuss pollution and litter as these environmental effects take away all the air inside our lungs.  Imagine living in a world where there is no such thing as air pollution, or water pollution. Again, think about a world where there is no smelly garbage when you are walking down the block. You see how beautiful that sounds? That is the reason why we should fight until there is no thing such as pollution. We should not just sit there and watch our country (United States) become more polluted. Fighting to get fresh water, our neighborhood clean, our environment clear, and being able to live in an unpolluted environment doesn’t sound that bad or hard, does it? I walk about five minutes to school every morning, and every time I am on my way to school, all I see and smell is garbage. I walk around covering my nose, so that I won’t be able to smell the disgusting scent in the neighborhood, because there is trash piling up everywhere. And do you know what will happen covering your nose all the time: cut off your breathing. This can cause you to die! Trash piling up everywhere can cause germs and bacteria which can lead to various diseases. Living in a society where trash is piled everywhere can negatively impact people’s mental health. Lastly, this issue can also contaminate water and soil.

Pollution has been causing dangerous problems to our planet and ourselves. Pollution can lead to dangerous diseases! Pollution is murderous! It is deadly, as it can cause lung cancer, asthma, stroke, sore throat, shortness of breath, chest pain, respiratory infection, difficulty in breathing, and a lot more. Another reason pollution should leave far away from us, is because of how it is killing our poor fishes in the waters. And within the next few years to come, there will not be even one fish for us to survive on. There will be no fish for you to rely on. Our fish are dying due to people throwing garbage in the waters. I will never say any of us here are doing this bad deed or even throwing away their trash on the ground.

Last reason why pollution should be solved “is that disinfectants are often flushed into drinking water. When these are combined with toxic algae, the pollution leads to the creation of dioxins. Dioxins are chemical compounds that cause cancer and reproductive issues”. (Goodwall Team, 2021). As a human who depends on water, I take it very personally to make sure our waters are safe. Litters should be put in their rightful places and not in our water bodies.

As you can notice now I am a very clean person, and that is because cleanliness is next to holiness. These are my appeals for a better environment and good health. My first solution is that we all replace our garbage cans with bigger ones. Garbage is also piling up in our city.  People should also do more walking and riding bicycles instead of using fossil fuels, which increases air pollution. There should be solutions that also make for people to be engaged to use bicycles. For people to start riding bicycles there should be more bikes in cities for people to use. Bicycles should also be cheap for people to afford. And lastly there should be enough bike lanes, so that people will be safe while riding. And these can also be a form of exercise for us to stay healthy. Second solution to fix pollution is to start using electric vehicles and stoves. Fossil fuels will be the death of all of us if we do not stop using it. Fossil fuel will end us. Fossil fuel will destroy us. We should also start planting trees in our neighborhood. Trees that you plant will give you oxygen to breathe. Recycling cans, glass, plastic, and papers will also be a good help to reduce pollution. “The unhealthy levels of fine particulate matter and nitrogen dioxide originate mainly from the burning of fossil fuels. In 2018, air pollution from fossil fuels caused $2.9 trillion in health and economic costs, about $8 billion a day. Switching to clean sources of energy, such as wind and solar, thus helps address not only climate change but also air pollution and health”. (United Nations). This quote proves everything I was talking about switching to renewable energy. Fossil fuels are dangerous to produce and also not renewable. These are the many reasons why nonrenewable energy sources should be eliminated Fossil fuels should be banned! Fossil Fuels should cease to exist!
