Empowering Teens: Recognizing and Preventing Dating Violence

Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month was a national effort to raise awareness of teen dating violence. 33% of women get sexually, physically and verbally abused, according to loveisrespect.org.  It was has been observed every February since 2004.

At CSSJ, Ms. Saini and Ashley created a wall installation for students to write anonymous personal experiences, definition of a healthy relationship, inspiring stories, definition of an unhealthy relationship, and words of support.

According to the pamphlet, “[the] goal is to create a wall of shared experiences, community support and awareness about this important initiative.”  The pamphlet also contained more scary stats such as up to 19% of teens experience sexual and physical dating violence

After students have contributed their words, they went to visit Ms. Saini for a TDVAM pouch.  Included photos show some of the students’ words here.

Ms. Saini and Ashley also shared that teens could contact the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-799-7233.
