Hello August!: How to have an eventful summer while filling up your resume

The school year has ended just a month ago and you’re most likely very ecstatic about that. You get to chill in your bed, play video games, chill with your friends, go to the pool, the beach, work a summer job or even go on vacation. Even though it’s summer, that does not 100% mean to slack off on your journey to having the successful future you may see for yourself. There are so many ways to build up your resume by doing summer activities.

Starting off, you can do summer jobs. Most schools, especially here at CSSJ, give students the opportunity to sign up for SYEP summer programs to add something on your resume and to add some money to your name! You can also volunteer to be a camp counselor at a summer program, a school, or even babysit. Whether you’re getting paid for these activities or not, these can be good skills to have and even better experiences for people to recognize and know some of the things you do.

Keeping it short in sweet, another tip that can add some length to your resume can be to engage in a sport that you either want to start or you want to get better at to increase the likelihood of you doing exceptionally well in the following season of your sport. Extracurriculars, leadership titles, championships, and other achievements are the kind of things that employers, or colleges could be looking for.

Lastly, you can do college courses over the summer, whether you get paid or not these will get you college credits that end up saving you about a semester or half a semester in your first year!

With all of that said, don’t forget to enjoy the rest of your summer whilst doing these things! See you in September!
