Ice skating trip with mentors and mentees

One of the best experiences of being mentors and mentees at CSSJ is going on trips together to build community and connect with each other. Mentors and mentees skated at an ice skating rink in Prospect Park on a chilly Monday morning in Brooklyn. As expected, some kids fell multiple times but got back up, some held on to the fence the whole time, and some skated all around.

Students also drank hot chocolate to warm up and take a break from ice skating. Lastly, we had a chaotic snowball fight where no defined groups were involved. Mentors and mentees built fun memories.

We spent 4 hours there. People who went were the 9th graders who passed all of their classes and their mentors (some seniors) as well as Katie, Caroline, Sherry-Ann, Ammie and Kara. For this trip to happen, it takes time, a budget, approval, handing out permission slips, collecting them. These trips are rewards for the students who passed their classes, as well as valuable time when mentors and mentees can spend time together and make connections.
